2 Chronicles 20:17 Stand Firm

(NIV)

17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

This should be a comforting verse to each of us and one that brings relief and courage.

The Lord is adamant about the battles fought. They are His and His alone. We cannot win a battle.  We must act according to His wisdom in order for all battles in our life to be won.

The next verse is our instruction. As God is winning every battle, we are to stand on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ and believe. This is the position God wants us to take up. We have ringside seats to witness God’s victories.  He says it plainly….”stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.”

This is a gift given to us as we trust God in the situation.

We are to stand and watch our Lord do whatever He needs to do to win a battle. Nothing is too hard for Him. Our deliverance is in His hands.

God wins these battles for us, not for Him.   He demonstrates daily His ability and power.

The biggest battle we face daily is the battle fought in our minds. The victory in those moments is when God has established peace in our heart and we have a revelation of His greatness.  Unfortunately it will take another battle in another area to be reminded of this epiphany.

There are many verses addressing our fears.  Why is that?   If you look in scripture and see how God sees us you will understand.  We are considered His sheep.  Sheep are probably the most vulnerable animals there are.  They need help with everything including turning them back over when they roll on their back.

If we are that vulnerable no wonder we are afraid.  Even those with weapons are afraid.  God tells us not to be afraid.  Why?  Because He knows the untouchable power He holds. He invites us under His wings of safety and protection and yet we choose to stand out in the dark shivering from fear.  Why?  Because of pride and ignorance. The older we get in the Lord the wiser we are to the truth and the truth is that if we lay down our own inadequacies and blindness and look through the telescope of faith, our fears will be dealt with in a moment because we see with certainty that indeed nothing can harm us if we stay close to God and obedient to His will.   He knows what each movement will do and He knows which ones to avoid. It’s pathetic how easy it really is and how hard we make it.

Challenge and prayer: Father I choose to stand and believe that you have the victory in this situation and I don’t have to try and figure it out.  All I have to do is stand boldly before your throne and ask you to fight this battle for me and then watch and wait.

God bless

lamb-rightThe purpose of this series is to encourage people to live as loving, compassionate, and peacemaking children of God: Jesus tells us to pray, "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10) God tells us through Micah (6:8), "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God." And we know from Revelation 21:4 that there will be no more mourning, or crying, or pain, or death. Thus, Christian living requires us to set the standards of these conditions here on earth for our fellow human beings, and for the other animals, as a witness to the rest of the world. To do otherwise is not Christian.
