The mission of the Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society, Inc. is to promote the vegetarian ethic in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York, educate the community, and aid anyone in the pursuit of a totally vegetarian (vegan) cruelty-free and healthful lifestyle.

Support our local Farm Sanctuaries!

Any donations made to Catskill Animal Sanctuary by December 31st, 2010 will be matched. Please consider donating to help CAS reach their goal. New this summer-Compassionate Cuisine cooking classes and Camp Kindness a summer camp for kids! For more information visit their website at www.casanctuary.org. Also show your support to Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary! Consider sponsoring an animal or making a donation, they are also currently having a matching fund drive. The Ulster County SPCA is in dire need of the following items: Laundry detergent and bleach, Antibacterial dish soap, Paper towels, Brooms and mops, Heavy duty garbage bags, extra large Kitchen garbage bags 8 1/2 X 11, White bond paper, Kitty litter and more kitty litter (non clumping kind). Any of these items can be left at Roberta’s or Judi’s house or the office (call to set up a meeting time) and we will take them to the shelter.

Looking for fun activities to do with your kids? Come join the newly formed MHVS Youth Group! Meet new friends and participate in activities that will be fun for the whole family. Baked Beans

This recipe is from Mary McDougall. These beans are nicely sweetened with just a touch of heat.  They go together quickly using canned beans and cook in the oven for a “no-fuss” meal.  Delicious served with steamed corn on the cob, baked potatoes and a tossed green salad.

Our Next Event
Tuesday, September 14th 2010 ~ 7pm

MHVS offers a Vegetarian Support Group. It will be held at our Rhinebeck Office and is open to anyone wanting information about becoming vegetarian or vegan. We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in the evening at the office. Call for more info. Judi Gelardi and Luella Winne are the facilitators.

Our MHVS youth coordinator will be having a table at the Catskill High School Childrens Expo. Our table will be located in the Farmer’s Market section of the expo and we will be featuring activities that inspire healthy food choices while having fun with food.
