Fireworks may be beautiful to us,
but they traumatize animals.
No cruelty is justifiable.

A campaign to

Stop Fireworks!
A project of the Ohio Animal Defense League
Dear Humane Colleague:
The
City
of Eastlake, Ohio recently announced plans to build a new professional
baseball stadium that will house a new minor league baseball team for the
Cleveland Indians franchise. Other local teams will play in the new
stadium, and it will also be used for other events as well.
Our concern is that the stadium will be built in a densely populated
residential area. Most residents in this area have companion animals
including dogs, cats, birds, and rabbits to name a few. Wildlife inhabit
this area as well. Some species known to be in this area include deer,
opossums, raccoons, bats, bald eagles, skunks, foxes, owls, falcons and
many other species of birds.
Our organization is upset by this plan, because of the fact that the
stadium will be used almost daily for several months out of the year and
will include the use of professional high-grade explosive fireworks.
Explosive fireworks cause animals immense fear and stress. Many animals,
especially dogs are terrified of these noises, and many break free, or
jump fences to try and escape the terror. Once these dogs break free,
they are prone to being hit by cars and being killed. The proposed
stadium sits next to 2 major highways and several major roads.
We are asking that your organization please write a statement, on
letterhead stationery against the use of fireworks at the stadium and mail
it back to us. Your statement can be as long or short as you want it to
be. If possible, please include the number of members/supporters your
group has in the body of your statement. Or you may simply fill out the
enclosed petition and mail it back to us. Please do not directly contact
the city officials at this time. We want to gather statements from as
many groups as possible, and then present them to our mayor (who is very
unconcerned) and the media at a strategic point in the future.
Some of the organizations that have already endorsed our campaign include:
Alley Cat Allies, American Feline Society, American Humane Association,
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Animal

For more information, please review the enclosed materials. If you have
further questions, please feel free to contact us. Contacting us by email

distance phone calls.
Thank you for your help!
Sincerely,
