Hairy Vetch (Vicia villosa) - 01)
This is a patch of hairy vetch growing in a field just beyond the mowed area at
the side of the road. The vetch is almost vine-like, being supported by
other vegetation.
(
Hairy Vetch (Vicia villosa) - 01a)
In this photo, we can see the alternating pinnate leaves of the hairy vetch.
Some of the leaves seem to be growing almost opposite from each other.
(
Hairy Vetch (Vicia villosa) - 02)
The purple colored wildflowers in this God-created living bouquet are two kinds
of vetch, cow and hairy. During the last few years, we hardly saw any due
to excessive roadside mowing, but this year the vetch had re-established itself
further back in the field.
(
Hairy Vetch (Vicia villosa) - 04a)
This is an enlarged side view of the hairy vetch flower. The individual
cell structure of the petals can also be seen, particularly in the upper purple ones.

Presented here are just a few of the countless components of God's creation.
Just as we cannot have human and animal life without water and plants, neither
can we have lasting peace without love and compassion. It is our hope and
prayer that this series will motivate people to live and act in a cruelty-free
manner; that we would no longer hurt or destroy each other, the animals or our
environment.
