Wild Flowers of Sleepy Hollow Lake
- White Violet -

This white variant of the
common violet, according to the literature we have read, may be a "displaced"
Southern variety, sometimes called the Confederate Violet, which has now made its home in
New York State.

Note that the leaf and flower
structure of this white variety is very similar to the common blue or purple violet with
the exception that the petals are fuller and overlap each other, particularly at the top
of the flower. We have also noticed that the leaves seem to grow somewhat larger
than those of the common variety.
