A Little Bit of Mercy
By Sue Shaw
An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

A Little Bit of Mercy
By Sue Shaw

I used to eat with relish,
The flesh of beings
I now cherish...

I could squash a hapless bug
Without a thought,
And like a thug,
Douse another
With some evil-smelling spray...

- But that's who I was before!

I don't do that anymore,
For my heart has opened fully
And I pray...

That every human being
Will likewise see,
And start agreeing...

That even bugs
Deserve some pity
In both the country and the city,
And a lit bit of mercy
Never ever goes astray...
