LABORATORY STORY
Poetry by M. Linda Steffey

In a Washington laboratory
I read of something gory...
It's still the same old story
Of torture and abuse!
Heavy weights are dropped on cats
Cancer's given to some rats
Man's cruelty? NO excuse!

In a lab in Maryland
Monkeys strapped down
They can't run
Bags put over their poor heads
Painful experiments...Oh dread!!
Some chewed off their own fingers
And I bet wished they were dead!!

In Norwalk Connecticut
Incisions in live dogs were cut
And often organs removed...BUT..
The dogs weren't put to sleep!
Surgical stapling devices
Along with man's cruel vices
Are demonstrated on creatures meek!

The torture list is endless
And most are horrid...senseless!
And what's more in many cases
Your tax dollars pay for these!!
I can't help but to cry out
It's something we must care about
Stopping man's greed and cruelty..
PLEASE!!....

Mankind must learn to care
For his own kind,.. creatures rare
He must learn all life is
His sister or his brother!
We must stop the pain, torture
Pray to God to make man's heart pure
The last chance might be right now..
And there'll be not another....!
