Maybe JC Was A Vegetarian
By Paul Seymour
An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

Maybe JC Was A Vegetarian

They say JC may have been a vegetarian
'Cause he believed that it was wrong to kill
The Book says man should help preserve creation
And there are millions who believe it still

So maybe JC was a vegetarian
Like the monks that taught him how to read and write
Their scriptures said that every life was sacred
And kindness was the way to Heaven’s light

So Jesus maybe was a vegetarian
Like a whole lot of other holy men
The animals were here before the people
So maybe they’re not here for us, we’re there for them

And long before the scriptures, a man called Zoroaster
And a happy guy called Buddha
And all the early Christians
And men in many nations taught the same as Jesus
That cruelty is evil, compassion is salvation
And only do what you’d want done to you

And it's not just holy people
Scientists and artists
Great men like DaVinci, Bernard Shaw and Einstein
Ghandi and McCartney, millions throughout history
Hippies, punks and rappers, businessmen and athletes
Someone in your family...All believed as we do

They’re not here for us, we’re here for them
They’re not here for us, we’re here for them

Like children all the animals are people
They’re not here for us, we’re here for them
They’re not here for us, we’re here for them

So maybe JC was a vegetarian...
