When I say "I am a Christian"
    By: Carol Wimmer

Submitted 17 May 1998 by Debra <[email protected]>

When I say..." I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved"
I'm whispering "I get lost"
"That is why I chose this way"

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I'm weak
and pray for strength to carry on

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success
I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are all too visible
but God believes I'm worth it

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His name

When I say..."I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority
I only know I'm loved.

From time to time we all need to be reminded that there's no room in life for pride or self-will.  We need to follow the voice of the Lord.  I believe many who visit this Site truly are following God's voice for they have compassion -- compassion for all of God's creatures.  Not only do they have compassion, but they are willing to do something about their beliefs.  This does not mean that we won't stumble, fall or get lost from time to time.  This does not mean that we are perfect or strong or that we haven't failed or felt pain.  It doesn't mean that our futures are going to be filled with all of the joyful "earthly" things that we desire.   It means that we will have an inner peace that cannot be matched or duplicated.   It means that the void in our hearts has been filled -- a filling that we can get nowhere else but from the Lord.

So carry on my Christian friends.  Go out and spread the message in your hearts.   The message of love, compassion and peace for all of God's creation -- not just for man.  I hope you enjoy this poem.  It really touched my heart.

In His Love,

Debra
