Resources and Links Useful Sources of Information
The links listed below are useful in
obtaining information about research facilities and the experiments that
they perform. By using these resources in combination it is possible to
obtain a wealth of information about the experiments that are underway at
laboratories in your area. If you have any questions on how to utilize
these sites please feel free to contact us at
saen@saenonline.org
This link will take you to the
CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on
Scientific Projects). This database catalogues all research projects
funded by the National Institutes of Health. Searches can be done in
many ways. The Institution field can be used to search for projects at
a specific facility. The State field can be used in a similar way.
Searches can also be done using the Search Terms field to find types of
research (i.e. vision, cocaine, etc.). This field can also be used to
search for specific species (macaca macaque monkeys; saimiri
squirrel monkeys; callithricidae lemur, dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit,
rat, mouse, etc.). I recommend that you search in fiscal year 2001
(select in the fiscal year field) because all fiscal year 2002 reports
may not be available. It is also very effective to use the and
parameter to combine searches in different fields. For example type
macaca in the Search Terms field with a state (i.e. California) in the
state field and you will receive a listing of all experiments funded in
California that involve macaque (macaca) monkeys.
THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
EXTRAMURAL AWARDS PAGE
Another useful site within the NIH
is the Extramural Awards Page. This page makes financial data on both
institutions and specific grants available by year for each state.

AGRICULTURE/ANIMAL & PLANT HEALTH INSPECTION SERVICE
This next link is for the United
States Department of Agriculture/Animal & Plant Health Inspection
Service (USDA/APHIS)
This site also has useful information
in the press releases section, the efoia electronic reading room, and
the publications section (especially the Animal Welfare Enforcement
Report).
