There has been a report of the discovery of a rabid
raccoon in Long Island. When this was reported on 8/12 on WLNY, CH 55, which
is a Long Island, NY TV station, the field reporter approached a raccoon in
a cage and stated "Although raccoons appear cute and sweet, they are
actually vicious and very aggressive." To demonstrate, she thrust her hand
toward the cage, and this poor, scared captive animal tried to snap at it.
The raccoons I feed stay back nervously while I leave
dog biscuits and fruit, and run in terror if my cat looks out. Obviously
wildlife should be dealt with sensibly; but don't let Ch 55 be a conduit for
furriers and further wildlife bashing. Complain via their website (and
