Action Alerts IMPORTANT: Contact Senator Re Rodeos ADOW is working on a similar bill to NYC's that would ban rodeos in
Westchester. We have Assemblyman Gary Pretlow on board, and have contacted
Sen. Vincent Leibell. Please politely but strongly urge him to create this
bill for submission in the January session of the Legislature. Make
particular mention if you are a Westchester resident and/or Republican -
though you needn't be either to contact him. Points to cover: - Mt. Vernon and South Salem have already gotten rid of their rodeos
after activist intervention; other Westchester areas are very unlikely to
bring in rodeos and would offer little resistance to such a bill; - Cruelty and also trickery of rodeos (i.e. in Mt Vernon they called the
police on our peaceful demonstration six times per day; this actually worked
against the rodeo, as the police got disgusted with them. And do we want
our police depts tied up with such nonsense?) - Public safety: Westchester has been served with a Notice of Dangerous
Condition regarding traveling animal acts which includes SEEING a
distressing incident at these acts. Animals have died at rodeos; lawsuits
for mental anguish could be filed. - The conditions animals travel in and are maintained in, before and
after the show. - Precedence is set here: the Greenburgh ordinance covers rodeos. Email: [email protected]
