On May 16, 2015 we met with Westchester County Legislator David Gelfarb, to request legislation that would ban bull hooks in Westchester County. As most of you know, the bull hook is a sharp instrument used to inflict pain on elephants and other 'wild' animals at circuses, for rides, etc. It has been banned in several venues; a bullhook ban helps stop circuses outright.

The Westchester Board of Legislators (BOL) IS awful on animal advocacy. They may not care about animal protection - but many members of the public do. The BOL must give serious attention to animal protection legislation esp since they are pd with public money.
PLEASE CONTACT BOL LEGISLATOR DAVID GELFARB AND POLITELY BUT STRONGLY TELL HIM TO GIVE THE BULL HOOK BAN EQUAL SERIOUS ATTENTION AS ANY OTHER ISSUE. This bill must go to committee and be voted on; we will then lobby members to help it pass. You don't have to be a resident; if you are, cite it, as well as your taxpayer/voter status. SAMPLE LETTER:
Dear Legislator Gelfarb:
As a citizen concerned about humane treatment and respect for animals, I strongly urge you to move the proposed bull hook ban through committee to passage.
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance in this matter.

The BOL thinks no one cares about the animals; thank you for educating them!
