Assemblymember Democrat Shelley Mayer is running for election to the senate
seat vacated by George Latimer in Westchester County. The date for the
special election is April 24, 2018. Phone banking and canvassing
opportunities are available to promote her campaign and get out the vote
(info below).
Rep. Mayer has been a supporter of animal issues and advocacy:
She is the author of the companion bill for S3327/A6519, which is the great
bill by Sen. Avella which would eliminate the grossly unfair DEC law that
only hunters can serve on their advisory board, thus guaranteeing a lethal
outcome for wildlife.
A few months ago Mayer held a conference of animal advocates and rescuers at
her office, to share ideas while educating her on the issues. Included were
phone participant assemblymembers Amy Paulin and Linda Rosenthal.
After the contentious coyote meeting in Yonkers which she attended, Mayer
stated she is drafting a bill that would require more humane options for the
DEC to follow for coyotes.
We believe Rep. Mayer would be an asset to the animal advocacy community;
everyone who can vote in that special election might consider voting for
her. In addition, phone banking for Rep Mayer is going on now. Two locations
are available, in Mamroneck and Yonkers.
