The NY Post reports that the abandoned chick we published a ltr about has been 'euthanized' by the NYCACC (Animal Care Centers of NYC)
***The article says 'A CACC spokesperson could not supply additional details on the animal's health.'
NO ONE AT THE CACC PICKED UP THE FIRST PHONE CALL (!) THO THIS IS A CITY AGENCY.
NEITHER THE QUEENS CACC NOR THE NYCACC COULD FIND ANYTHING RECORDED ABOUT THE CHICK IN THEIR RECORDS; THE CACC SAID IT WOULD NEED ID - AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BROUGHT IN BY THE MTA. STILL NOTHING.
~~ The article says 'an MTA employee fed her bread crumbs' - so how 'sick' could she have been? Doesn't the CACC have to prove she was sick?
~~ Has there been any effort to find and charge the person that left her on the train? This is chargeable animal abandonment.
We are a Westchester-based group; tho we xpost various-topic letters from group members, we have little contact with NYC agencies. The CACC has a long history of highly questionable 'euth' tactics and more. If anyone in NYC can give this troubling incident further attention pls do. Thank you.

Tuckahoe, NY.: How pathetic that the Daily News tried to mine pseudo-clever wordplay points at the expense of a poor, frightened little chicken left alone on a train (“Loose chicken fouls train,” Nov. 21). This animal was abandoned. Did you think she signed a lease? Chickens are intelligent animals who prefer being clean, and clean themselves with dust baths and preening. Mama chickens love their babies and talk to their chicks while still in the egg, and the babies peep back. But their natural life is robbed from them, and sadly, their babies are taken from them immediately after birth. Then 300 million male chicks who won’t lay eggs are slaughtered by either being ground up alive or gassed in hatcheries. Instead of mocking them, have a little decency and compassion for helpless, silent victims who can’t defend themselves. You’d make a mess yourself if you were trapped in a box. Kiley Blackman
