We'd like to sincerely Thank You all for calling, writing and attending the Westchester Board of Legislators Meeting on Sept 14.

VIDEO OF THE EVENT HERE: https://westchestercountyny.granicus.com/player/clip/8472?view_id=1&redirect=true

This was an invaluable opportunity to impress upon the entire legislature that animal advocacy is a vital, urgent issue, here and everywhere. We're told one legislator stood up and thanked a humane advocate after the advocate's speech. You folks rock!

Also, Pls take a moment to contact the Westchester County Executive and the Legislative Chair, with a head's-up re the three issues cited in the original alert - plus any additional humane items of note:

2) Creation of an Animal Welfare Caucus:

  • Funds for free and low-cost spay/neuter programs.

  • Funds for pet food pantries. This is the city’s first-ever investment in pet food pantries.

  • Requiring low-cost veterinary clinics in every city;

  • Enforcement of existing laws on backyard breeders, licensing, animal cruelty and sterilization

  • Funding for low-cost spay/neuter and veterinary wellness care; we don't want our animal friends needlessly winding up in shelters to face an often dismal future.

  • Stronger animal cruelty laws with proactive intervention, authority for law enforcement to inspect shelter and living conditions

  • Penalties that deter neglect before it becomes fatal, plus laws that prioritize prevention, not just prosecution

3) A Ban on the sale of Foie Gras in Westchester County

Foie Gras is gotten by forcibly blasting large amts of food down the throat of a goose or duck till her liver bursts. It is an incredbily cruelly gotten product that has been banned in at least 20 countries.

We can make meaningful progress for the most profoundly helpless beings in society.

Let's make Westchester a shining example of an enlightened future for all - because that's who we are! ~ Animal Defenders of Westchester
