Very Important: Contact Ch 12, Journal News about March of Dimes
It has become apparent that local broadcast and print
media rarely cover our events. We've realized that, while we frequently get
press, it's usually not local press. The biggest outrage, if you recall, was
Channel 12 interviewing the March of Dimes
(MOD) Walkathoner's and
us, and only broadcasting them. It is my opinion that they defer to
advertiser interests (Petco, MOD, KFC, etc.) This is unacceptable.
We are a very active group; and while we don't expect
the local press to cover all of our events, I expect them to be treat us far
more fairly, and I am asking you to take the following action/s:
The Journal News is Westchester's 'Premier Newspaper.'
They are branching out into NYC.
They are a Gannett newspaper. 'Civitas' recently posted
the Gannett 'Principles of Ethical Conduct'. It indicates complaints can be
filed with the managing editor if certain principles in reporting aren't
followed.

PLEASE CONTACT THE JOURNAL NEWS MANAGING EDITOR
CYNDEE ROYLE AND STRONGLY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE VIOLATION OF
THEIR PRINCIPLES IN RELATION TO ANIMAL ADVOCATE ACTIVITIES. DO NOT accept
that they cover such stories as the Mt Vernon 'pet shop' story - they HAD to
cover that.
Some Gannett principles you can cite:
1) WE ARE COMMITTED TO:
Seeking and reporting the truth in a truthful way;
We will dedicate ourselves to reporting the news
accurately, thoroughly and in context;
2) MAINTAINING INDEPENDENCE:
We will be free of improper obligations to news
sources, newsmakers and advertisers;
We will provide news and information that people need
to function as effective citizens;
We will seek solutions as well as expose problems and
wrongdoing;
WE WILL REFLECT AND ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING OF THE
DIVERSE SEGMENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY;

Please also complain to Janine Rose, News Director of
Channel 12. Channel 12 said they were too busy with more important news to
cover the foie gras ducklings at Trader Joe's; they broadcast an art show
that night.

You might also tell both sources you will not purchase
their newspaper/cable station as long as this trend continues.
Many, Many thanks!
