[Read GOOD NEWS UPDATE, December 2015: NIH Ending Baby Monkey Torture!]
Health
conducts and funds cruel and archaic maternal deprivation experiments in
which infant monkeys are intentionally bred to suffer from mental illnesses,
taken from their mothers at birth, and then subjected to terrifying and
often painful experiments to exacerbate their symptoms of mental illness and
test the severity of their psychological trauma.
These inhumane and contrived experiments have little relevance to human
mental health, and researchers around the country are conducting
sophisticated studies with human volunteers that can better answer questions
about the impact of early life adversity on brain and behavioral
development. I urge you to end these experiments and direct NIH's funds
toward modern, human-relevant research projects.
Please speak up for these infant monkeys and demand that NIH stop
rehashing cruel and irrelevant experiments that were not acceptable 60 years
ago and are not acceptable today.
