August 2018
Sea Shepherd UK has launched the campaign Operation Mjolnir in Iceland documenting the horrific acts of whaling. The whaling industry is being undertaken by Kristjan Loftsson and his company Hvalur Hf. Hvalur Hf received a permit to kill 191 endangered fin whales this season for commercial use for a 100-day whaling season.
So far, this company has killed over 100 endangered fin whales including 2
alleged hybrid fin/blue whales. They have also killed 14 pregnant fin
whales.
Unfortunately, due to a reservation from the International Whaling
Commission, commercial whaling remains legal in Iceland. The best way to
shut down this company and the whaling industry is to contact the Icelandic
Government. If the permit is not renewed for the 2019 season, no whales will
be killed in Iceland. For those of you who wish to help, please email or
write polite letters to Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir. Jakobsdóttir and
her party, the Left-Green movement, are opposed to whaling. There is just
one company responsible for whaling in Iceland and they can be stopped.
Parliament just needs to put whale-watching tourism ahead of this
barbaric industry that has no place in 21st century.
