"Like prejudices based on skin color or gender, animals are exploited
because of speciesism -- a prejudice against others because they belong
to another species. Like humans enslaved, exploited, and exterminated
throughout history, animals are victims of the philosophy "might makes
right" in which the less powerful are used and killed. Vegans are
sometimes accused of being naive to the fact that "life is cruel" and
that "animals kill each other."
Regardless of whether life can be cruel for some, or whether others
kill, each of us has the capacity for compassion and can choose not to
contribute to the suffering of others."
"How degrading for a magnificent creature who is innately filled with
the breath of the wild -- to be suffocated by the greed and ignorance of
human kind."
"Humans call animals 'dumb'...after they robbed their entire own
precious world. They are intelligent beings, but after a millennia of
slavery/forced to obey selfish/callous humans we make them look dumb! If
we were in their situations we, too, would appear 'dumb.'"
"Despite the fact that he was left-handed, Dr. Albert Schweitzer often
wrote our prescriptions with his right hand because his cat liked to
sleep against his left hand and was not to be disturbed."
"........for a poet, writing the words down about animal suffering,
is like taking your heart out of your chest, smearing it on paper and
watching as somehow the blood forms the words."
"MEAT: THEIR MURDER, YOUR SUICIDE: Heart disease, stroke, cancer,
osteoporosis, kidney disease, diabetes, and other degenerative
diseases."
"HEART ATTACK: Gods revenge for eating his friends."
"Don't buy fur. Get a Rolex or a life."
~ Sign at the March for the Animals, June 1990
"Each sentient animal has a right to his or her body and life. Every
step you take towards being vegan makes the world a more compassionate
place."
~ Vegan Outreach
"Eat beans...................not BEINGS"
"Over many millions of years, man has become the paragon of animals,
but we must take care to preserve what nature has created, or risk the
fires of that creation."

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are
his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to
the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such
devotion."

"There are many intelligent species in the universe. They are all
owned by cats."
"A dog is a dog, a bird is a bird, but a cat is a person."
"A dog thinks: People give me a nice warm house, a place to sleep and
food...they must be gods! A cat thinks: People give me a nice warm
house, a place to sleep and food...I must be a god!
"After dark all
cats are leopards."
"A house is not a home without a cat."
"I got rid of my husband. The cat was allergic."
"A
hundred years from now, it will not matter the sort of house I live in,
what my bank account was, or the car I drove....but the world may be
different because I was important in the life of the animals and the
creatures on this earth."
"All that breathes is precious. Who is to
say that the suffering of an animal is less worthy of solace than the
pain of man? The spark of life is no dimmer simply because it is encased
in fur or leather."
"Animals" to many; "Pets to some;
"Soul Children" to the very lucky.
But what if they might be "Angels"?
Selfless beings of the bright beyond;
Come to teach us compassion, love, even humility?

"Characteristics such as intelligence, awareness, and altruism exist
on a continuum, with some animals having more of these characteristics
than some humans. There is no morally relevant characteristic that
separates all human beings from all non-humans. Indeed, the continual
search for a unique trait led psychologist Paul Chance to conclude that
the only thing different about humans is that we are "the only creature
on Earth that tries to prove that it is different from, and preferably
superior to, other species."
