Wrongs

An 8-year-old horse, for those who may not know, should be just entering the prime of life – akin to a 21-year-old human being.
After finishing last, some 52 lengths back in the 8th race at Los
Alamitos Wednesday, 8-year-old Magic Mark, according to multiple sources,
collapsed and died back in the barn. An 8-year-old horse, for those who may
not know, should be just entering the prime of life – akin to a 21-year-old
human being. As always with these things, the decidedly benighted mind of
the racing apologist is laid bare for all to see:
Barbara Livingston of the Daily Racing Form (on Twitter): “Goodbye, Magic
Mark, who collapsed following today’s Bertrando S. at Los
Alamitos…condolences to all who loved him, including owner/breeders Dorine
and John Lanza, and trainer Ron Ellis.”
An anonymous poster on “Thoroughbred Champions” forum: “His trainer, Ron
Ellis, had said on TVG that the Benchmark gelding was doing very well
preparing for the Bertrando. Condolences to Ron and all of MM’s
connections.”
Yes, give your hearts, prayers, and sympathies to those responsible for
killing this young horse. (“Fans” like the above are, of course, also
responsible, for they make it all possible.)
It’s Sick. It’s Twisted. It’s Horseracing.
