Animal industry coopting the concept of nonhuman animal personhood

In the an international pizza chain’s pizza box, they are coopting the concept of nonhuman animal personhood by giving these cows names (Stella, Edna, Abigail, Estelle, and Nancy) and implying these cows are “helping” instead of the truth that they are unconsenting victims of the dairy industry, victims of nonveganism.

As the abolitionist vegan movement continues to introduce and defend the concept of nonhuman animal personhood, making the public aware of its failure to act upon its duty to respect nonhuman animals with veganism, we can expect to see animal industry coopting the concept of nonhuman animal personhood. I have included two examples from an international pizza chain below.

In the following image which was uploaded to this international pizza chain’s Facebook page with the caption, “Our pizza cheese couldn’t have been made without help from these lovely ladies. #Dairygoodness”, they are coopting the concept of nonhuman animal personhood by giving these cows names (Nancy, Betsy, and Stella) and implying these cows are “helping” instead of the truth that they are unconsenting victims of the dairy industry, victims of nonveganism. They are playing upon Facebook’s tagging feature which uses facial recognition to help you identify your individual friends and family members.

They also refer to them as “unsung heroes” and “lovely ladies” who “are a very important part of the [international pizza chain] team.”

If you are already vegan and are disgusted by animal industry coopting of the concept of nonhuman animal personhood, please know that nothing is going to change in a significant way for nonhuman animals until we undermine animal industry with a clear unequivocal message of veganism.
