From Dr. Kerry Kriger, Save the Frogs!
December 2013
In 2011, here were only two amphibian biologists in Ghana then, and virtually no environmental education programs. Save the Frogs! now has five university chapters spread across the country and has educated over 8,000 Ghanaians about frog conservation.
In September 2011 I traveled to Ghana, West Africa with a goal of starting SAVE THE FROGS! programs in one of the world's poorest and most environmentally destroyed regions. There were only two amphibian biologists in Ghana then, and virtually no environmental education programs. Together with Ghanaian biologist Gilbert Adum, I co-founded SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana, the first independent branch of SAVE THE FROGS!
The group now has five university chapters spread across the country and has educated over 8,000 Ghanaians about frog conservation. SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana has active programs to reduce the frog meat trade in the north, to protect the biodiverse Atewa Hills from mountain-top removal mining, and to restore habitat for the critically endangered Krokosua Squeaker Frogs and Togo Slippery Frogs.
Over the next few weeks we will be telling you a lot about our recent successes in Ghana, and our upcoming projects. Your donations makes have made our successes in Ghana possible and we thank you for all your support!
