Actor and dog lover David Duchovny has recently thrown his star power behind 600Million.org, a developing spay and neuter program trying to put an end to the growing dog over population, by starring in the company’s ad campaign.

In the video, Duchovny states, "It is estimated that around the world there are more than 600 million stray dogs."

The X-Files and Californication star further explains how animal cruelty is not illegal in some counties, and therefore it is common for "population control." Or, in other words, to torture and murder dogs by horrific means such as "throat slitting, beating, electrocution, and shooting."

600Million.org hopes to create a pill that can be easily taken to make a dog sterile, so that both surgery and cost are not a factor for the animal’s family.

"It's actually going to make a very big difference in the world," Duchovny said to PEOPLE, "which is rare that you can be involved in something like that."

600Million.org needs donations in order to continue developing and manufacturing the puppy sterilizing pill. Visit the website here to view David Duchovny’s video and donate to the cause.
