Protecting the Arctic and Atlantic from dangerous drilling will give polar bears, ringed seals, right whales and other endangered species a fighting chance. The Center will work to defend this decision -- and to stop any attempts by the Trump team to gut the rules and laws that protect the wild.
Take a moment to celebrate: President Obama has just banned offshore oil and gas drilling across more than 100 million acres in the Arctic and in the Atlantic along the Eastern Seaboard.
This historic decision is the culmination of years of work by the Center for Biological Diversity and allies. And we couldn't have done it without the thousands of you who raised your voices to call for the protection of these magnificent places. Thank you.
This week's decision is a critical step for President Obama's environmental legacy. Protecting the Arctic and Atlantic from dangerous drilling will give polar bears, ringed seals, right whales and other endangered species a fighting chance. The Center will work to defend this decision -- and to stop any attempts by the Trump team to gut the rules and laws that protect the wild. As the whole world watches Donald Trump fill his cabinet with climate deniers and oil industry hacks, putting offshore oil and gas off limits is crucial to protecting our climate future.
We're expanding our team of lawyers, scientists and organizers who helped win this victory, because we know that these triumphs will become much harder to achieve in the next four years. You can help us beat back Trump's nature-killing agenda with a donation to the Center's work.
