Due to the success of the pilot, the Food Services Division plans to expand the program to include thirty-five more schools in January!

Thanks to your letters of support, and the hard work of student activists from the Earth Peace Foundation, students can now choose a vegan lunch at some Los Angeles public schools. Due to the success of the pilot, the Food Services Division plans to expand the program to include thirty-five more schools in January!

During the first week of the pilot program, vegan food options ran out due to their popularity. Students said they loved the vegan chili, tamales, and teriyaki burgers that were served. Because of the vegan lunch options, non-veg students are also eating less meat and have encouraged their families to purchase healthy options at home.

We’re thrilled to report this incredible victory, which could make Los Angeles Unified the first school district in the nation to have a vegan option in every school. Student activists say the next step is to introduce a vegan lunch option statewide.
