Fish Slaughtered by the Billions

At least 40 billion individual sea animals are captured and slaughtered each year around the world. Most are snatched from their native habitat and are injured and drowned in nets, stored on ships, drowning and suffocating under thousands of other fish suffocating beneath them. Some are dragged into ships by nets and clubbed to death, or left to suffocate in the air. Some are caught one by one and murdered. Can you imagine 40 billion?

The difference between one million and one billion:

  • If you had $1 million and spent $1,000 a day, it would take you 2.73 years to spend.
  • If you had $1 BILLION and spent $1,000 a day, it would take you 2,739 years to spend.
  • If you had $10 BILLION and spent $1,000 a day, it would take you 27,390 years to spend.
  • 1 billion minutes ago, Jesus had not yet been born.
  • 1 billion hours ago, the very first human beings appeared on Earth.
  • 1 billion days ago, the saber-toothed tiger and the wooly mammoth had not yet appeared on the planet.
