Today we bring you wonderful news that the cruelty of dog racing has ended in yet another state! The Birmingham Race Course, the last track in Alabama, has decided that it will never race again. This means that 46 American states have now turned their backs on this cruel activity.
Following catastrophic declines in live wagering and with the loss of televised races from Florida, track management informed kennel operators on Friday that racing was over. Even better, track-affiliated rescue groups were called into immediate action and the process of releasing the dogs has already begun.
From WVTM35.com: "The Birmingham Race Course is calling it quits on live greyhound racing after 28 years."
If you are interested in adoption, please adopt locally as the Birmingham greyhounds will be sent to groups across the country. Remember, April is greyhound adoption month!
