On International Respect for Chickens Day (May 4), please note that of all land animals slaughtered for food, over 95% are chickens (and over 98% are birds).

These slaughter totals are very depressing because they INCREASED from 2018 to 2019. Of course, vegans advocate for all animals, but chickens are slaughtered at tremendous numbers compared to other land animals.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture:
9.59 billion land animals were slaughtered in 2018;
9.76 billion land animals were slaughtered in 2019.
