Female cows in the dairy industry are treated as nothing more than baby-
and milk-making machines— with no regard for their emotional lives. If they
were allowed to fulfill their role as mothers, they would spend months
teaching and nurturing their young, and would continue bonding and
socializing with them for years, just as we do as humans. Animals are
families too.
As a health coach, I know that there is absolutely no reason to consume
dairy, in fact there are many reasons why we should avoid it. Ideally, we
need to keep our bodies in an alkaline state and dairy inhibits this. We now
know that milk consumption is actually linked to increased bone fracture and
does nothing to prevent osteoporosis. As many as 8 out of 10 of us are
lactose intolerant, and dairy causes all manner of ailments and diseases in
our bodies, from asthma to allergies and increased risk of cancer and heart
disease.
The truth is, we can most effectively and healthfully maintain strong bones
by exercising, eating plenty of leafy green veggies, getting adequate
amounts of vitamin D, and limiting our salt intake.
It’s time that we extend our compassion to all animals, including our fellow
mothers, both human and non-human.
