Cow’s milk is for baby calves. I did not need to be a mother to understand this, but having my own child has driven this home on such a personal level. This is why I am a mother against dairy.
On the morning of my birthday five years ago, my water broke, and the
next day I received the greatest present of my life: a healthy, precious
daughter.
Our bond is unbreakable. It is also biological. Mother cows, who carry their
babies for nine months too, feel this bond as well. They love their babies,
nurture them, and speak to them. They protect them, and just like us, they
want to see them live and grow.
But on dairy farms, shortly after cows give birth, their babies are stolen
from them so that the milk they produce to feed their calves can be sold in
grocery stores for human consumption instead. While we have a little cream
with our coffee, or smile as we down a big bowl of ice cream, mother cows
are crying out for their babies.
Cows have excellent memories, and they feel hurt and pain. This breaks my
heart.
Cow’s milk is for baby calves. I did not need to be a mother to understand
this, but having my own child has driven this home on such a personal level.
This is why I am a mother against dairy.
