I don’t watch the oscars. Haven’t in over 20 years. Not into mind-umbing infotainment. It’s corrosive, but the 3 or 4 minute acceptance speech for best actor by Joaquin Phoenix last night was mind blowing.

I never in my life time thought I would hear such a powerful message for all the voiceless beings in our world. To include animal rights in the same sentence as human rights. To have the clarity of mind and the generosity of heart to understand the link between all the “isms” racism, sexism, speciesism etc. on one of the most influential platforms available to one person is mind bending.

Bravo Joaquin!!!!!!

Finally someone with a powerful voice speaking up about injustice in all its forms that I and countless others have been endlessly speaking about for years on end.

His speech may not influence or change the minds of old geezers of my generation, or those a bit younger or older than my generation but it will certainly as hell change the minds of the younger generations, and that is why to me this speech was huge.

Yes, it’s a very American thing but the American film industry is very powerful and its effect is far-reaching all across the globe.
