James Thompson was a Christian Minister devoted to championing the rights of animals within the church and in the wider community. He never failed to challenge Christian Doctrine when it appeared to denegrate the rights of non human animals causing them pain and suffering and ultimately costing them their lives.
For this reason James was known as The Animals' Padre campaigning for
animals until his passing in 2015.
During his lifetime he was very active appearing in televised debates,
performing animal blessings in the church and demonstrating against animal
cruelty wherever he saw it. He was also a good friend to the many he helped
to overcome the grief of losing a pet and in the personal struggles of
people to process and combat animal cruelty.
The Animals' Padre book is a collection of James Thompson's early writings
on Christianity and it's attitude towards animal rights collated and
thoughtfully put together in the form of one book by Phillip Jones.
The book will be of interest to all who care about animals and helpful to
anybody who may be struggling with the perceived place of animals in The
Christian Church.
This republishing of a collection of his early booklets will not go down well with some in the Church establishment. James was blacklisted by an Archbishop, and 'rocked the boat' on countless occasions, costing him his own bishophood. He doesn't mince words in his condemnation of the established view of the Church - and of those who actively pursue animal cruelty. The Animals' Padre was a militant for kindness and compassion - and certainly no chocolate soldier.
