FROM THE AUTHOR

This is the true story of my beloved cat, Taffy. I met her while volunteering at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. She was grieving the loss of her home and the ability to live with her previous human, who had to move to a medical facility. Her human had made the loving decision to give her cat a chance to have another home by bringing her to the shelter. I was grieving the loss of my kitty Roxy, who had crossed the Rainbow Bridge after we shared 18 wonderful years together.

My hope is that Taffy’s story gently reminds anyone who is grieving that by helping others and keeping our hearts open, the Universe will bring us beautiful synchronicities, such as the one that brought Taffy and me together when we both needed extra love and healing. I hope it will also inspire people to volunteer at their local animal shelters and to adopt rescue pets.

Finally, I hope this book will inspire people to let their inner child out to play and to embrace uniqueness in themselves and their loved ones as part of what makes us as pawesome as Taffy with her polydactyl toes!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Laura Toussaint has been an advocate and rescuer of animals since childhood, when she donated her allowance to SpokAnimal Care. She continues to support animal rights organizations as an adult and is a member of the PETA Augustus Club. At seven years old, she convinced her parents to let her keep a kitten she found abandoned near a creek, insisting it would be for “a few days until we can find him a good home.” Her true plan, of course, was to prove that the best home for the kitten was with her family! That is exactly what happened, and the kitten grew into a cat named CC, who had a wonderful life with them.

Laura is passionate about helping others recognize their unique contributions to making the world a kinder place for all beings. She is a college professor and holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from American University. As a long-time vegan and a graduate of the Mainstreet Vegan Academy, she enjoys sharing how embracing veganism can be a powerful way to save animals and protect the planet. She lives in Washington with her human and fur baby family.
