Thankfully, the days of fur ads are numbered because designers and retailers are quickly ending the use of fur as a fabric.
For most of my adult life, I've been amazed by the fur advertisements in the NY Times. How could this - or any - media oulet provide companies with a platform to normalize, glamorize and promote terror? Thankfully, the days of fur ads are numbered because designers and retailers are quickly ending the use of fur as a fabric.
In the past three months alone, Saks, Canada Goose and Neiman Marcus have announced that they are going fur free. They didn’t make this decision in order to be better corporate citizens or because it was the right thing to do. They did it because the relentless anti-fur protests were disrupting their business.
Among the lessons I've learned as an activist is that the majority
of people will prioritize profits, convenience and taste over
compassion, ethics and sensibility. And that greed explains why we
are on a collision course with our own demise and the demise of the
planet. We reap what we sow.
