1. Swordfish toward Extinction
According to the European Union (EU), the swordfish now ranks as one
of the Mediterranean's most vulnerable species due to direct commercial
fishing and to incidental catches in other fishing operations. The EU
and ICCAT (the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic
Tunas) are working together to develop a plan in order to prevent the
"by-catch" of swordfish by vessels that are supposed to be fishing for
other species.

Industrial fishing (legal and illegal) has been depleting our oceans.
As long as the demand for fish continues, we'll be participating in the
destruction of God's aquatic creatures.
2. Famous Quote
"The question is not 'can you make a difference?' You already do make
a difference. It's just a matter of what kind of difference you want to
make, during your life on this planet." ~ Julia Butterfly Hill (1974 to
present), American activist and environmentalist
3. Tax on Meat
Philosopher Peter Singer suggests implementing a tax on animal
products in order to discourage their consumption such as the taxes on
cigarettes that saved many lives – not only the lives of people who are
discouraged from smoking as much as they would if cigarettes were cheap,
but also the lives of others who spend less time passively inhaling
smoke. According to Singer meat-eaters impose costs on others, and the
more meat they eat, the greater the costs. Meat-eaters raise our health
insurance premiums, increase Medicare and Medicaid costs for taxpayers,
pollute our rivers, threaten the survival of fishing communities, push
up food prices for the world’s poor, and accelerate climate change.

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) John 6:35
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall
not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.
Jesus offers us a fulfillment that cannot be satisfied by food but by
a desire to obey our Creator. His teachings of compassion, mercy and
peace lead us to the fulfillment that our souls crave.
5. Tackling the Factory Farming Problem
Patrick O. Brown, a Stanford University biochemist, says animal
farming is an ecological disaster given that it contributes to 9% of
human-caused carbon dioxide emissions, 37% of human-caused methane (most
of it emanating from the animals' digestive systems) and 65% of
human-caused nitrous oxide, according to the Food & Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations. Brown is planning to take 18 months
off to work out economic models with colleagues; illustrating ways that
animal farming is likely to become onerously expensive. Then, he'll work
with famous chefs and food researchers on tastier vegetarian dishes. He
says, "If you're a big food producer now, this is absolutely
inevitable," ... "You'd better start thinking ahead. You'd better
seriously start investing and trying to find alternatives in order to
stay alive."

It’s fantastic that a recognized scientist openly exposes the
destruction factory farming is causing in God’s Creation. However, he
doesn’t stop there. Brown is putting his time and resources into helping
put an end to factory farming. This is good news for God’s Creation!.
