1. Complete Disregard for the Environment
Factory farmers don’t care about the animals, or public health, or the environment. A great example is what Tennessee representative Andy Holt --not surprisingly a sponsor of the state’s failed ag-gag bill—did. He dumped 800,000 gallons of pig manure into the streams and fields surrounding his hog farm. Seemingly, Holt’s lagoons were overflowing with waste and therefore he chose to dump the waste in the waters and lands nearby. He broke the law and showed complete disregard for the environment.

The best way to prevent people like Mr. Holt from damaging the environment or being cruel to God’s animals is to not support the animal agriculture industry. If people stop consuming animal products factory farms would disappear.
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
Heavens and hells are of our own sowing. We live in a culture that mindlessly exploits animals and encourages the domination of those who are vulnerable by the strong, the male, the wealthy, and the privileged.
This culture has naturally created political, economic, legal, religious, educational, and other institutional vehicles to shield those in power from the effects of their actions, and to legitimize the violence and inequities required to maintain the system.
Over the centuries it has developed an elaborate scientific and religious framework that in its reductionism and materialism denies the continuity of consequences in many ways.

3. Grass-Fed Beef is Not Good for the Planet
The idea that raising cattle on grass is better for the environment than raising them on grain needs to be revisited. It turns out that "If we switched to all grass-fed beef in the United States, it would require an additional 64.6 million cows, 131 million acres more land, and 135 million more tons of greenhouse gas emissions," according to researchers at Washington State University. So, in order to produce the same amount of beef currently produced, the toll on the environment would be much higher.

Humanity’s desire for animal products is causing tremendous devastation to God’s Creation. Eating plant-based foods can help us heal and restore the environment, and also our relationship to God’s animals.
4. This Week’s Bible Verse
(RSV) 2 Corinthians 3:5-6
Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, 6 who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code but in the Spirit; for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life.
God’s covenant with all creation is one of love and grace. God enables us to bear witness of this covenant and calls us to be good stewards of our bodies, animals and the environment.
