Farm Bill Voted on This Week
(Dec. 2007) The federal government subsidizes millions of dollars worth of bacon, burgers, fatty meat and dairy products; and offers them to our schools and food assistance programs.
The companies making these unhealthy products give millions of dollars to members of Congress through political action committees. These unhealthy foods are contributing to the high rates of many chronic diseases and especially childhood obesity.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) urges everyone supporting healthy, plant-based products to contact senators to vote YES on the FRESH Amendment (Lugar-Lautenberg Amendment), a bill that would reduce federal subsidies that fund foods high in fat, cholesterol, and sugar and support programs that promote the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
