Children’s Compassionate Hearts
Many kids choose not to eat meat after they learn where meat comes
from. This is the example of Mary Rives Fowlkes, who asked her dad:
“Does turkey come from a turkey?” Since learning that turkey does come
from turkey, Mary has been vegetarian.

Children have an innate sense of compassion and justice, and it is
not surprising to learn that most kids would find the way we treat
animals abominable and therefore refuse to eat them. Why is it that
adults forget that animals are, too, God's creatures with emotions,
instincts and above all a drive to live and to avoid pain and death? We
should look at children and learn from them that the capacity to show
love and compassion is within us.
