Due to an increase number of recalls of contaminated meat in recent
years the government is expanding its testing of E. coli in meat, in
hopes it will hasten recalls and help authorities identify more
foodborne illnesses. Even though the meat industry immediately opposed
the move, the government ordered to begin testing for six additional
strains of E. coli in beef trimmings in March 2012. To read the article

The government is once again applying a band-aid on a monumental
problem: agribusiness. Although more testing will hopefully unveil how
unsafe animal products are, it will do nothing in behalf of billions of
exploited creatures. The government needs to stop subsidizing the meat,
dairy and egg industries and start promoting a plant-based diet.
