Carol J. Adams, author of many books including The Sexual
Politics of Meat: A Feminist-Vegetarian Critical Theory, proposes
and discusses 5 religious approaches to meat-eating: a vegan
beginning; what Jesus (or any other spiritual leader) would eat
today; the nature of creation and our role in it; the effects of
anthropormorphizing God; and animals as neighbors.

Major world religions
point to a vegetarian world as the ideal one. Our calling to be
loving, merciful and compassionate; stewardship of Creation; and
God’s animals’ ability to suffer are some essential teachings that
we must no longer ignore. We have the capacity to create a joyful,
peaceful and just world; and adopting a plant-based diet is a
crucial step to achieve it.
