Child Labor Violations in a Poultry Slaughter Plant
The animal agriculture industry abuses animals, abuses workers and destroys the environment. It’s not surprising to learn that some factory farms and slaughterhouses also illegally employ underage workers. This is the case of House of Raeford, one of the largest poultry processors in the country, which was fined this week by the United States Department of Labor for illegally employing underage workers at its chicken slaughter plant in Duplin County, NC. Moreover, this is their second violation in the past four years and this is the same slaughterhouse that made national headlines when it was exposed by an Mercy For Animals investigation in 2007 revealing egregious cruelty to chickens and turkeys.
