2. Dr. Deborah Jones Presentation in Cleveland, OH

The CVA is pleased to host a presentation by Dr. Deborah Jones at Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights, 2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights, OH on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:30 PM in room 102. Dr. Jones will discuss “Is Eating Meat a Moral Issue for Christians?” She is General Secretary of Catholic Concern for Animals (www.catholic-animals.org), a Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics (directed by Revd Professor Andrew Linzey), and author of The School of Compassion: A Roman Catholic Theology of Animals and other books.

3. Disturbing Video

This week Mercy for Animals released undercover video of farm workers abusing cows and calves in Ohio. It is very disturbing – perhaps too disturbing for some people. 4. Last Month for Ohio Members to Get Signatures

We need our Ohio members to gather signatures for an important ballot initiative. Petitions must be submitted at the end of June, so it’s now or never if you want to help get this on the ballot. To learn more, go to www.ohiohumane.com.

5. Activist Feedback

Yvonne LeGrice, who leafleted at Acquire the Fire in Portland, OR on 4/24, writes:

I just wanted to give some feedback on our leafleting last weekend. Jessica, Stephanie, and I leafleted at the start of the last session of the day for 1.5 hours. We distributed 982 leaflets. Jessica related that a girl who took the pamphlet and then turned back around to me and said, "This is cool! I'm a vegetarian!"

Stephanie said that she noticed a number of people already looking at the leaflet and making comments. Some were: "Of course Jesus ate meat." "I don't know, these days he probably wouldn't." "No I don't think Jesus would eat meat." "Maybe we shouldn't eat meat anymore." And a couple of girls who walked by said, "Hey, I'll become a vegetarian, if you do" "Yeah, lets!" One girl ran to her group and shouted, "Guess what? I'm going to become a vegetarian!" Then there was a middle aged woman who approached me and said, "Thank you for doing this!" And an adolescent boy who stopped in line and said, "Give me a high five!" And one person said, "God bless you." Of course, there were the negative comments too, but she said that overall Christian teenagers are a polite and receptive group of kids..
