I'm a Christian and was particularly interested in the excerpts from Let's Study God's Word Together- Do Animals Have Souls and Spirits.
I've always believed that, since David was 'a man after God's own heart', when he was told the 'example' of the poor man who's sheep was taken by the rich man who killed and ate it (I understand this was an example about Bathsheba) his reaction was the tell-tale sign.
Since he's a man after God's own heart, we can get God's perspective if this incident were to happen. David was so incensed, he felt the man should be put to death.
To me that has additionally represented how respectfully they SHOULD be treated.
