Many years ago a saw a framed sign in a pastors home that read: “I’m not religious, I just love the Lord!” I always thought that was very profound. However, the word can be used In both a positive and negative context.
Actually, it’s probably good to read and understand about sacrifices, because they are a perfect example of how human beings turned a faith based loving relationship with God into a religion of suffering, bloodshed and death, which is directly opposed to what our loving God desires.
The Bible also helps us understand about the ungodly ways people act, and the more we know, the easier it becomes to discern the differences between the things of God from the ways of the world.
