Dear Sebastiaan:

Thank you for writing.

Yes, animals do have souls and spirits just as we do, for God created them and us as living souls (Hebrew:  neh-fesh khah-yaw). Unfortunately, many translations try to hide this fact. As an example in Genesis 2:7 we are told that Adam became a living soul, but when God brought the animals before Adam to name them, we are told in the Hebrew that whatever Adam called a living soul that became its name, but many translations say creature, as in Genesis 1.

There is no difference between the souls and spirits of humans and animals, but humans were also created in the image of God, something we most likely lost in the Fall, but regain in salvation (resurrection).

We hope this helps.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
