I lived for eighteen happy months as a strict vegetarian, but have spent six months drifting back to the dark side. Knowing that the Dalai Lama eats meat doesn’t tell me that I should too; but it provides enough doubt in my mind that I can rest the spiritual dilemma, and fool myself into what is, in the short term, an easier path.
For some people, like me, vegetarianism is a struggle. The Dalai Lama’s habits are subversive to my cause. If the captain cannot sail the ship, how can I?
