We believe that you made the correct assessment of this Bible passage.
There was a curse placed upon all of humanity in the separation of the animals from us, because they now fear us. There is a further curse upon all flesh eaters in the diseases they get from eating animals and their byproducts.
In our commentary, we were trying to focus more upon the call to repentance and how what God did was to remain as a constant reminder of our disobedience.
