Dear Ray:
We don't believe it's a stretch at all.
Doesn't the Bible teach us that obedience is better than sacrifice?
Doesn't Isaiah in Chapter 1 say that sacrifices are an abomination and those that bring them are murderers? It's not the burnt flesh that pleases God, it's a repentant and obedient heart and soul.
And doesn't Malachi tell us that God desires a grain offering instead of flesh?
