Christian Pacifism
Comments by Cynthia Clarke - 15 Jan 2002 - 2157

Having taken part in both passive and active civil disobedience I can tell you with assurance that each takes a great and equal portion of strength.  For those whom God has freed to defend themselves or their nation with active fervor, let them do it according to their conviction.  But for those for whom pacifism seems the only true way, let them forge their path with equal strength.  Only let neither tell the other that their conscience before God is at fault.  The marvelous thing about God is that there are parts of his message and parts of our individuality that he will allow to live within the firm and sure foundations of the gospel.

Isaiah writes about the Messiah as being "The Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6).  Jesus calls upon all believers to become peacemakers, and says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God" (Matthew 5:9).  Paul writes, "For the anxious longings of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons [children] of God" (Romans 8:19).
